WHY CHOOSE LAB GROWN DIAMONDS?

pRICE

The price of lab grown diamonds can be up to 40% less than natural diamonds even though they are visibly and structurally indifferent.

CLEAR HISTORY

Lab grown diamonds have a clear sourcing history and can be traced back to their original origin. Whereas, this is not the case for natural diamonds. Unfortunately, natural diamonds can often originate from mines with poor human welfare.

ETHICAL CHOICE

Not only do lab grown diamonds come from a more ethical source in a human welfare perspective, but they are also a a step towards a cleaner environment. Mines use a lot of energy and disrupt land, whereas lab grown diamonds can be made from renewable energy.

What Exactly Is a Lab Grown Diamond?

A lab grown diamond is a genuine diamond created in a controlled laboratory environment
rather than mined from the earth. These diamonds are formed using advanced technology
that replicates the natural conditions under which diamonds develop, resulting in stones
that are identical in their physical, chemical, and optical properties to naturally
occurring diamonds.

There are two primary methods used to create lab grown diamonds: High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT)
and Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD). HPHT has been used for many years, while CVD is a more
recent innovation that continues to grow in popularity. Both techniques begin with a tiny
diamond seed and a source of carbon, gradually building a larger crystal with the same
brilliance, hardness, and beauty as a mined diamond.

HPHT Method

With this method, a diamond seed is placed into pure carbon and then subjected to massive heat and pressure, mimicking the conditions under which natural diamonds are formed. However, because it is possible to apply heat and pressure in a far more efficient manner in a controlled laboratory environment,it takes around 4 weeks rather than millions of years to produce a new diamond with this method.

CVD Method

With the CVD method, a diamond seed is placed inside a sealed chamber that is filled with carbon-rich heated gases. When the gases are at the right temperature, carbon layers begin to form on the seed and it grows. The result, after around a month, is a square-shaped diamond.

Diamonds made with the HPHT method grow ina cuboctahedron shape (a polyhedron that has 8 triangular faces and 6 squarefaces). Because of this, they grow in 14 different directions while CVDdiamonds grow in only one direction. However, with either method the result isthe same: a diamond crystal that is physically and chemically identical to adiamond taken from the earth.

Why Lab Grown Diamonds Are a Great Choice

Lab grown diamonds, sometimes referred to as synthetic or created diamonds,
offer several key advantages when compared with traditionally mined stones.
They provide the same brilliance and durability as natural diamonds while
delivering added benefits in terms of ethics, sustainability, and value.
